Top Heaters come with 3 unique cords. Most Top Heaters use a 3 prong plug that plugs into the side of the tape machine. Older machines have a circular plug. Early versions of the 555 have a direct wire (no plug).

Thermal Plate
If the Thermal Plate is not operating you will not get any heat from the Top Heater. Before replacing Top Heater or any parts, try plugging the Top Heater directly into a 110v wall outlet. If Top Heater heats up, check the Heater Plug on the tape machine.
